Yoga Alliance Professionals is the largest internationally recognised professional organisation for yoga teachers and schools. Yoga Alliance Professionals maintains teaching and ethical standards.

The fact that Yoga Alliance Professionals has certified our 200-hour Hatha Yoga teacher training programme means you can have complete confidence that the course meets with its exacting standards and that all of our teachers have the necessary qualifications. Once you have completed your 200-hour level training, you can apply to register with Yoga Alliance Professionals. Once accepted you can use the title 200 RYT or Registered Yoga Teacher.

Hatha Yoga 200-Hour yoga training

Our 200-hour Hatha Yoga teacher training course is designed for students who, after at least 2 years of practice and study of yoga, have recognised in themselves a genuine desire to embark upon the challenging yet fulfilling journey of teaching yoga to others. We also welcome all serious students of yoga who wish to deepen and broaden their knowledge and understanding of this ancient tradition, whether or not they currently aim to become teachers themselves.

Our students will be evaluated on an on-going basis with regular homework, group discussion, completing their course reading lists, case studies and, finally, teaching a 45-minute class to Bath Yoga Studio clients and other teacher trainees. Written essays and monthly homework will be given throughout the course. A journal will also need to be completed throughout the course, to reflect privately on the journey experienced whilst studying. A written assignment will include planning and presenting a 6-8 week course for students of their choice, style and level.

The course is designed to enable people to train and qualify as yoga teachers over a period of 6 months and as a result is mentally and physically challenging. While we are confident that you will thoroughly enjoy the programme and that it will only fuel your passion for yoga, it is important that students recognise that a significant level of commitment required.

No, you don’t have to be a vegetarian. However, in line with Ahimsa – the first of the Yamas – the principle of not harming another living thing, we recommend embracing a vegetarian diet for the duration of the training. In addition, we know that a vegetarian diet can enhance the health benefits of yoga practice. One of the many reasons people practice yoga is for what it does on a physical level. Beyond toning the arms and tightening the butt, yoga cleanses the internal organs, keeps the digestive system moving, improves blood flow, strengthens the immune system, and… the list goes on!

Yes, successful completion of the 200-hour Hatha Yoga teacher training course will mean you are qualified to teach yoga. Once you are certified you don’t need to continue your education to keep your certification but we strongly recommend that you participate in workshops and other training to keep on learning: yoga is a vast subject and learning should be life-long.

Yes, teaching practice is a vital part of learning to become a yoga teacher. However, you must take out insurance through Yoga Alliance Professionals (cost at time of writing is £15) and you must follow the guidelines set out in our Code of Conduct in relation to teaching.
